Behavioural Consulting with Barry Gay. Buena Vista Kennels

A consulting session involves a one hour meeting with you, your dog and Barry.

He will listen to your concerns and determine what better behaviors you want and which ones you want to put a stop to. He will demonstrate how to achieve this with your dog, and then coach you until you get it right. He will create a plan for you to follow in order to have the improved behaviors become second nature.

Some of the issues that Barry works with every week are, pulling on walks, jumping up, shyness and separation anxiety, aggression at the door, barking at everything that passes, aggression toward dogs and/or people, kennel and house training, running away and generally not listening. If a dog owner has any concerns about what their dog is doing, we can show you how to make it all better. Believe it or not, this should only take one hour.

The cost is $126.00, tax included, and results are guaranteed.
This includes unlimited follow-up support by telephone or email whenever you may need it.

Here are a few things our clients have told us about their session and the success they've experienced as a result.

Hi Barry,

Thank you so much for a such a informing session. We definitely needed that. All the things you said about how dogs think and why they do what they do definitely makes sense and now knowing that, we will be better parents for our dogs. We weren’t sure how she was going to do after, but she did amazing on our first walk and second and third. She definitely learned fast. She doesn’t pull and act like she needs to protects us. She is still wary of all the surroundings but doesn’t stop anywhere unless I do, so I think it’s a good thing. Hopefully now all the pressure will be off her and she will enjoy her doggy life even more.

On our last walk, we had a little bit of a challenge, as there was a big dog running loose! Before the training she would pull and use all her force to get to the dog and this time she cried for a few seconds and moved on. I was very impressed!! Honestly that one hour with you taught us more than any other training! I would definitely recommend you to any dog owner I know!

October 15,

Hi Barry,

We were out on Sunday to see you. The last 2 days have been the BEST walks we've ever had with Storm!!
She hasn't pulled, barked or cried at anyone; no dogs or humans, while on her leash. She's not afraid of the fridge, stove or hallway anymore.
Thank you! Thank you!
We absolutely will be at your next set of obedience classes.

Hello Barry,

I just wanted to thank you!!! I’ve been told many different things from “experts”, but you showed me something that has made our family’s life better. Morphy has responded very well to our new approach and now catches on quickly. He’s a happier dog and I am stoked! Thanks so much; that was the best money I’ve ever spent. It’s made a difference in 14 people’s lives. Keep up the good work.

Hi Barry,

I apologize, but this is going to be long-winded. Consider it a glowing testimonial and if you wish to use it, please go ahead!

I have been meaning to sit down and write an email to let you know how Kannon and Sophie have been responding to their training since you came and did a consult with me nearly a month ago. Right after you left I went out and purchased a prong collar for each dog.

At first I was convinced that once you left, my dogs would never respond to anything I did that you taught me. I was worried I wasn’t going to be able to remember everything to show my husband when he got home later that day. I am pleased to say that I did remember everything and even taught my husband the tips you showed me. We were able to practice them on Sophie that same night.

For the first few walks we took the dogs out one at a time. I would intentionally walk where I knew that we would encounter other dogs to test Kannon especially. For example, early on after having you come over, in one short walk around the block we encountered 4 dogs! With the first encounter he was a bit anxious but quickly got over it and by the time we saw the 4th dog he couldn’t have cared less about it. In fact, the other folks were having a hard time controlling their dog and I was so thrilled to not have to have that problem on my end anymore.

Now we can walk the dogs at the same time – my husband takes one and I take one – and it is just so enjoyable to be able to have our dogs behave so well and it feels like we finally have the ability to enjoy having dogs in our family.

I have the confidence now that I know I can appropriately handle any situation that comes up if we do encounter another dog and it escalates. That confidence makes me unafraid to take them out by myself, which is something I would never have done before. I’m looking forward to working with them more along with the baby stroller in spring when I start running again.

To say I was skeptical that these dogs could be ‘fixed’ in just an hour consult session is an understatement. At first when I saw how the dogs responded to you and I thought maybe you had some sort of magical dog whisperer type vibe that would wear off once you left. Then I thought, we’ll give this a day or two and the dogs will stop responding to the pinch collars and I’ll be back at square one. I am pleased to report that after a month of walking almost every single day, it’s not gotten worse but has improved each and every time.

Thank you so much for all your help! My only regret is that I waited so long, wasted lots of money on other dog trainers, and didn’t let my dogs have a chance at being ‘normal’ much sooner.
